Our third stop at Shops at the Riverwoods was the Zions Mercantile Store. It is a store the originated in Nauvoo Illinois. They actually hand picked this darling lady and shipped her to Utah to oversee the opening of their new store. It is full of beautiful Mormon based paintings, LDS books, and beautiful decorations for *my* house.
Zions Mercantile hosted us bloggers so beautifully, offering many gifts including home made bread, and puzzles. I enjoyed walking around and looking at all of the fun stuff. One of my favorite people in the history of the Mormon church was a man named Porter Rockwell. He was a colorful personality that took it upon himself to protect Joseph Smith, and was actually considered his body guard. He carried many copies of the Book of Mormon around with him at all times and was even saved from a bullet killing him once when it hit the book instead of penetrating his body. They sell reproductions of the event and other memorabilia that is really old collector things.
They even had a guest artist come and speak with us about his work. His name is Robert Boyd. I love to hear about the creative process different artist have because they are all so unique. This picture is one of my favorite of the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He said many times that the photo shoot just came together perfectly. As I listened to him telling stories, it was obvious that the lighting and composition were inspired. His paintings are a beautiful reminder of a peaceful place.
I couldn’t help myself, and bought a beautiful painting of a little pioneer girl with blond hair.
(she looks like one of my little Pink Moss girls)
If you are in the area, I would definitely stop by and see all the treasures in Zions Mercantile
for yourself! It was a fun step back in time in the middle of a modern day mall.
For more information, you can find them on Facebook
and stay tuned for our last stop of the day, the yum yum yummiest high end restaurant in Utah!
