Love her thoughts and love your blog! Your family is simply beautiful!! I'm not quite sure how I found your blog, but I DO know that it is truly amazing how God's hand was in this beautiful story of "Handsome"!
We also have a special story somewhat similar to yours! Our nest was practically empty, with our youngest ready to graduate from High school in May . Our sweet girl was born in March of that year! Her mother lovingly and willingly placed her with us after coping w/a debilatating epilepsy. Our girls grandmother and I are first cousins. That is where our story is similar. The grandmother struggled w/the idea of "letting her" first grandchild go, but with her already raising her son's (who was incarcerated) daughter, one more child would have been next to impossible. The mother had no qualms or questions about placing her with us! The day she came to permanently live with us, is so deeply ingrained in my memory. There were lots of tears, lots of hugs and lots of praying!!
We live about 15mins away and we have an "open" type understanding when it comes to "our girl"! She KNOWS who her bio-mom is, She KNOWS who her grandmother is, She CALLS me momma and my husband Da grandchildhave legal custody of her and we could not possibly imagine life without her. She joined a family of 5, ages at the time were 27, 26, 22, 20, and 18 along with NOW 5grandkids! So yes, our "empty nest" has thrown away the "vacancy" sign!!
Our kids are now 30, 29, 25, 23, 21and 3!!! The grandkids are 6, 2, 17mos, 16mos, 5mos and one due in Jan2011!!
